What do we mean by slowing down. How can we slow down when there is so much to take care of. It’s such a demanding world with plenty of responsibilities, how can we balance all this?
We can by doing every action in a mindful way, from getting out of bed, too even are physical activities. I’ll explain. For example when we are doing a fast paced sport, the key to being quick and efficient in movement is down to how slow your thought processes are and that means that the mind is clear, it has clarity. In order to have a sound and clear mind, the noise or speed of thoughts need to be at a certain pace or flow in order to get the right motion and decision making when moving the body. Another example is how we prevent accidents. We are more prone to them if the mind is overthinking, overstimulated, overworked.
Basically if the mind is overstressed and pushed and pulled it won’t be able to multitask to its greatest ability. Don’t get me wrong some people love the pressure and speed, the thrill, the adrenaline it helps them. However, they may have mastered this level of speed and we are also not sure how long the mind and body can function in that way. Is it conducive is the question?
I believe that there is enough time to get anything done along as you are taking action. You can’t compare your speed with others, when you see successful people say I got there because we only have 24hrs in the day, that can create fear, non presence, going 100mph, this is not healthy. I like the story of the tortoise and the hare. The moral lesson of the story is that you can be more successful by doing things slowly and steadily than by acting quickly and carelessly.
Furthermore, the word successful it can mean materially, mentally and emotionally successful. The new success could mean peace. Not running through life like you’re on a treadmill, this is not healthy. When you put things into perspective, why would you want to rush anything worth having. Thinking longterm with sustainability means to slow your actions down. Don’t let others or things stress you by taking you out of a steady healthy process.
Every action be mindful of…. from making tea, to daily activities, to the smallest actions, you’ll see a great shift in your life. You will become more present, you’ll make better decisions, you’ll be thinking of the larger matters that benefit others plus yourself. You’ll be less reactive and aware of your actions. The by product of this is relaxation. You will be able to do this easier, and sleep better too.
However, the one most important to thing to remember in slowing down is that it takes great practice and observation of self. You may not do it all the time and there will be times where you will need to do things quickly/rush which is normal. But remember to come back to taking things at a slower pace whatever pace you feel is beneficial
